June 9th, 2021 (OTTAWA, ON) – Following the news of an Islamophobic hate crime committed in London, ON:

At OCH, we encourage a richly diverse community of workers and tenants. The heartrending events of last Sunday, the 6th of June, have left us in deep sorrow. This was an egregious act of racism and Islamophobia that has orphaned a child. That it would take place within our own province is unimaginably tragic. We strongly condemn this Islamophobic hate crime and extend our deepest condolences to the Afzaal family and their relatives. We mourn this loss with the Islamic community and support their fight for meaningful change against these injustices.

– Stéphane Giguère, CEO, Ottawa Community Housing Corporation
